On World Consensus

"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population..."

-Nobel Committee on the selection of President Obama for the Peace Prize
I wonder how they define 'the majority of the world's population'. Do they suppose that most people in the world agree with a gaggle of Norwegian bureaucrats? Do they think that all those good folks all (or even mostly) agree with Barack Obama? Just wonderin'...

Do you suppose that it's just a tad hubristic to imagine that one speaks for the whole world, or that one knows what the majority of people think?
